Graphic Notation

The piece that I choose to make a graphic notation of is called "A Policeman Is Walking" by Christopher Logue which is a poem. The poem speaks of a policeman as he walks adjacent to a freeway and considers what will happen once he has died. He goes through the grief that embraces him as he thinks about his death as well as the fact that he refuses to be buried where no one will see him on a daily basis. He then admits that the best place for him is under a freeway, where people will pass him everyday. The poem is shown here though the three layers that appear in the song, which are sadness, death and acceptance. While the first two layers show the policeman's progression through the crushing and lowering feelings of sadness and death through tears and blood. The last layer shows his layer of life where he has been buried by the freeway and is at peace, shown by the lack of movement wither up or down on the sheet.
Blurring The Boundaries
The piece that most made me think of this reading was actually a music video by the band OK Go called This Too Shall Pass. It first caught me on the idea of sound installations catching the eye as much as they catch the ear. Seeing as the music video is a literal interpretation of the sound that is employed throughout with the various visual elements that are included. As well it shows the intensive planning that goes along with such modern sound installations such as the design shown in the article. In general whenever I think of the a visual representation of sound, this music video comes to mind. Not only is it due to the fact that the video carries the sound of the song, it also becomes the one whole connected entity of of what the song is to me.
